WEBSITE IMPACT

Our website: what we have done to minimise its impact

Every web page consumes energy: on the servers that host it, on the networks that transmit it, and on the devices of those who visit it. Data centres and data transmission networks contribute significantly to global electricity consumption and COâ‚‚ emissions.

We cannot eliminate this impact, but we have tried to minimise it in the areas where we can take action.

Energy: where our website is hosted

The website is delivered via the Cloudflare network, which is included in the Green Web Dataset compiled by the Green Web Foundation. This is a not-for-profit organisation that collects and verifies publicly available information on the energy consumption of web service providers. The verification relates to the content delivery network, not necessarily the server hosting the website.

Page weight: less data, less energy

The website has been designed in line with the best practices set out in the Web Sustainability Guidelines. We have simplified the structure, compressed the images into WebP format and removed any unnecessary elements.

Note: these tools operate independently and are updated each time a new test is run. The emissions estimate is an approximation calculated on the home page: the actual figure depends on the device, the network and the energy used by the website visitor.
